La Poste: 5,000 Employees for Euro Transition#

September 21, 2001 — Le Monde (France): “La Poste, the French post office, is to recruit 3,000 temporary staff and call on 1,000 of its retired employees to back up services at its branches for the transition to the euro, scheduled for January 1 next year. The post office says the move will allow it to provide between 4,000 and 5,000 extra staff between December 15 and January 15. Chairman Martin Vial has not ruled out an extension of opening hours for the 17,000 post offices during the first weeks of the transition. Trade union SUD-PTT has called the temporary recruitment drive ‘inadequate’ comparing it with the efforts made by French bank BNP Paribas, smaller in terms of size, which has recruited 5,000 extra staff.” (Source: Financial Times)
