Ziegler Group on buying spree
Brussels-based Ziegler Group, which operates worldwide, recently acquired French transport and forwarding companies Trans Service, based in Rouen. Châtel Transports. headquartered in Raveux, and Bordeaux-based Societé de Transports. Transit et Magasinage (SUM), a wine storage and transport specialist.
Ziegler in Normandy
With the acquisition of Trans Service and Châtel Transports, the Ziegler Group, founded in 1908 in Brussels,
has improved its coverage of the Normandy region.
In terms of their structure, size and specialism (parcel distribution), the two latest acquisitions share the profile of other acquisilions by the group in the past few months.
The Belgian forwarding group recently took over Drouin Europe, Rivoire, Rochais Bonnet, Transco and Grimaud Logistique. Ziegler has had a longstanding presence on the French market with a large number of its own branches.
Chãtel Transports, which was established in 1954. recorded revenues of EUR 7.1 million last year and currently employs a staff of 93. There are 65 vehicles in its fleet, and the company has its own distribution and handling facility.
Trans Service was founded in 1983 following the
merger between the two companies Transports Eclair and Logistique Chevallier, Trans Service recorded a turnover of nearly EUR 8.2 million in the year 2000. A large part of this revenue was generated in the domestic French parcels busi‘less.
Majority stake in wine transport company
At the end of August 2001, the Ziegler Group took a majority stake in the Societe de Transports. Transit et Magasinage (STTM). Since its establishment in 1978, STTM has specialised in storage, preparation of orders. batching, labelling and the transport of wine throughout Europe. Among the company’s customers are some of the largest wine producers in the Bordeaux region. STTM operates a warehouse that accommodates on average nearly 3 million bottles of Bordeaux’s world-renowned “grand cru” red wines in its warehouse complex (3600 sqm).
The Ziegler Group will support STTM in transport and logistics operations with its know-how. experience and a worldwide distribution network.
