Pakistani Government desires private sector participation to modernise postal system

GOVERNMENT DESIRES PRIVATE SECTOR PARTICIPATION TO MODERNISE POSTAL SYSTEM:

ISLAMABAD : Minister for Communications and Railways, Lieutenant General Jawed Ashraf Qazi (Retd) said on Monday, the government desires participation of the private sector in modernisation of postal system. The minister said this while presiding over a meeting of the Post Office Department held here at the ministry of communications.

Secretary Communications, Iftikhar Rashid, senior officers of the ministry of communications and Postal Department were also present.

Director General Pakistan Post, Maj. Gen. Agha Masood Hassan (Retd) gave a detailed briefing.

The minister said that every possible steps must be taken for providing world level postal facilities to the people, adding, maximum facilities will be provided to the postal employees as per rules and regulations.

He added, the present leadership of Pakistan desires to provide world class postal facilities to the people and for this purpose the need is that the postal system be established on modern lines.

The minister said, revolutionary steps be taken for further improvement of Dak System in the country.

He directed the postal high-ups to solve the difficulties being faced in the sphere of Postal Service, within available resources on priority basis.

Qazi said, provision of maximum facilities as per rules and regulations to the postal employees will be ensured so that they could work with devotion.

He also gave an approval for uniform of the postal employees and urged the employees to work with dedication and national spirit for development of postal sector.

The minister directed to further improve the dispatch and delivery system of the Dak.

He said, we desire participation of the private sector in modernisation of the postal system.

Secretary Communications Iftikhar Rashid stated, the Post Office Department is introducing reforms in the postal sector which will bring about positive and encouraging changes in postal services and efficiency of the department will be enhanced.

He added, our endeavour is to provide maximum latest facilities to the people, adding, new dimensions have been added to the old traditional Dak System to meet the current demands of the public.

Director General Pakistan Post, Maj. Gen. Agha Masood Hassan (Retd) said, besides introducing new services to accelerate delivery of the Post, modern techniques including automation and computerisation is being introduced, so that people may avail better postal facilities throughout the country.

He informed the minister for communications about the steps already taken for development of postal sector.

Agha Masood said, more than 48,000 employees are working in the postal sector and we desire computerisation of postal system.
