Brussels gives France two months to correct relationship between La Poste and mailing firms

A European Commission decision published yesterday has given France two months to correct the relationship between La Poste, the French post office, and mailing companies. The Commission says La Poste is both a competitor of these private companies and their partner due to the postal monopoly.

Consequently Brussels believes that France is contravening article 86 of the EU treaty on the relationship between public companies and their private competitors. A complaint by SNELPD, the French union for mailing companies, is behind this decision. La Poste is itself present on this segment via services such as Carre Pro and subsidiaries such as Datapost or Mikros.
