bpost to take customs clearance services in-house

bpost has agreed to acquire the Belgian customs clearance division of Danish transport and logistics firm DSV Air & Sea NV. The Belgian postal company said the acquisition should be completed by February 2012.

It will take on about 35 employees from the DSV unit, which had been already providing bpost with customs clearance services for letters and packages on a fairly exclusive basis.

The company told Post&Parcel yesterday that it was investing in the experience of the DSV unit.

Spokesman Fred Lens said the move would mean his company providing a more complete range of services – particularly in the important growth field of e-commerce.

“The strong extension of the flow of packages is part of bpost’s e-commerce strategy and the customs clearance of these packages is an important part in the total strategy in order to provide a complete solution to the customers of bpost,” said bpost.
