Russian Post boosts staff qualifications with university alliance

For the first time ever Russian Post is sending postal workers to study at the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics. In a joint project between the two organisations, staff will be offered a two-year course entitled “Automation of technological processes and production”.

Students that graduate will receive a Master of Technology degree, while Russian Post will benefit from highly qualified staff that have the skills and knowledge to work in the “most innovative” areas of postal services, it said.

This year’s intake included 11 graduate employees of Russian Post drawn from head office, post office branches and Moscow processing centres.

Russian Post said its staff would not only be taught by the University, but would also be able to pass on their own unique knowledge and experience of modern postal technology to teachers.

Modernisation

The state-owned postal operator is going through a major modernisation program at the moment, and said that it has a “very high” need for technology specialists at the moment. The company has faced calls for privatisation, with complaints that modernisation efforts don’t go far enough.

“Therefore, Russian Post is paying great attention to training and professional development of its employeees,” it said, adding that it was providing a mixture of vocational training, secondary and tertiary education as well as refresher courses, short-term and project-based training.

Last year, around 230,000 staff or 62% of the workforce received some kind of training, half of which in workshops or short courses.

“Russian Post creates the conditions for professional and career development, providing opportunity for all young-and-able workers, whatever their current position,” the company said today.
