Itella Logistics to merge Danish and Swedish divisions

Finland’s Itella Corporation said today its logistics divisions in Denmark and Sweden will operate as a single unit from the start of next month. The merger of the two operations will help the company become a larger player in the market, the company said.

Itella Logistics currently employs 250 staff in Denmark and 150 in Sweden.

The new operation will be headed up by the Itella Logistics area director for Scandinavia, Jørn Johansen, who has been promoted to become managing director of Itella Logistics in Denmark and Sweden.

The changes take effect October 1.

Commenting on the merger of the Danish and Swedish operations, Johansen said: “By combining our businesses in Denmark and Sweden we will enlarge our business possibilities and become a larger player in the market.

“Under common management we can take mutual advantage of our resources, share knowledge and pool competences to benefit our customers,” added Johansen.

Itella Logistics has more than 30 offices in eight countries across Scandianavia, the Baltic states and Russia, with 7,700 staff.

The business provides road, sea and air freight services as well as warehousing and other contract logistics services, and last year turned over EUR 677m in sales.
