Swiss Post buys out partner in early-morning delivery unit

Swiss Post is set to buy out its partner in the early-morning periodicals and advertising delivery unit Epsilon SA next month. Media companies Tamedia and Edipresse said last week they would hand over their 34% stake in the Lancy-based joint venture, to give Swiss Post 100% control from December 14.

Both parties agreed to keep details of the deal confidential.

Tamedia said the move would allow it to focus on its core business publishing newspapers, magazines and websites.

Swiss Post would boost its own position in the early delivery of newspapers and unaddressed mail.

In a joint statement, the companies said: “For now, Epsilon continues as a 100% subsidiary of the Post. This results in no immediate impact on the staff and customers.”

The deal to hand over complete control of Episilon came as Tamedia renewed its distribution agreements with Swiss Post for early delivery of daily and weekly newspapers in the German- and French-speaking areas of Switzerland.
