50,000 Danes snap up mobile app for e-boks digital mail

Danish digital mail service e-boks has said more than 50,000 people have downloaded its new smartphone application in just nine days since the application was launched. e-boks, which is joint-owned by Post Danmark and envelope manufacturer Nets, said the consumer reaction to its move into the mobile arena was “much faster than expected”.

The company said Danes had a “penchant” for digital applications of the type, offering useful content combined with a sleek and user-friendly design.

The new application is available for iPhones, iPads and Android mobile phones free of charge, and is currently “ranked highly” within Apple’s App Store and Google’s Android Market.

It allows users to read and archive their digital email through their phones, delete items and register to receive mail from additional mailers.

Users can also use their phone’s camera to digitise physical documents like certificates, for secure storage in their e-boks archive.

Henrik Anderson (pictured right), the e-boks director, said: “We are very pleased that so many users downloaded their own app so quickly. Compared with other similar applications, it is a fantastic success, and it shows that our strategy of focusing on increased accessibility on multiple platforms has been just right.”

e-boks is in the final stages of setting up a mobile version of its website so that users of mobile phones using other platforms can also access their mail through their smartphones.

The launch of the mobile application followed a survey carried out by e-boks in which a fifth of customers said they would want to access the service through their mobile phones.
