DHL, Singapore airport terminal open new transshipment hub

DHL International and Singapore Airport Terminal Services (SATS) said they have opened a cargo transshipment centre serving DHL operations in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East regions. Trade and Industry Minister George Yeo, in a speech at the opening of DHL’s Singapore hub, said the centre will bring under one roof DHL’s inbound, outbound and airport operations. SATS is working with DHL to establish an express courier centre that houses DHL’s hub operations. The hub will be capable of handling 180,000 tonnes of cargo annually enhancing Changi Airport’s position as the premier air hub in Asia, Yeo said. With the recent addition of a new airfreight terminal and the opening of the express courier centre, Yeo said Changi Airport now has an annual handling capacity of 2.5 mln tonnes of cargo. The hub is part of DHL’s 300-mln usd expansion into Asia over the next few years, Yeo added. kre/tr
