Free change in Euros from La Poste (Belgium) until 2004
The Belgian postal service (La Poste) has reviewed its policy with regard to changing Belgian francs into euros because of new legislation passed on November 29. The law obliges the post office, as well as the Banque Nationale de Belgique’s nine centres, to make exchanges free of charge until the end of 2004.
La Poste has criticised the government for failing to consult it before passing the legislation but will nevertheless comply with it and will not be charging commission on over-the-counter cash exchanges. Cash sums of over BFr20,000 must be exchanged in major branches because of availability. Note exchange will also be free of charge for sums of less than BFr20,000 until the end of 2002.
