Estonian Post installing parcel terminals across Lithuania

Estonian Post is now installing its new automated parcel delivery terminals in Lithuania this week, to expand its parcel delivery services in the region. The company is installing units in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda and Šiauliai this week, having already established terminals in Alytus, Marijampole and Mažeikai.

Its intention is to complete a network of 35 facilities across the Baltic republic by the end of February. The company already has 38 terminals set up in Estonia.

The parcel terminals comprise a bank of lockers into which parcels can be delivered, or in which they can be left by consumers for delivery.

Estonian Post, which has a partnership with Poland’s Integer.pl Group for the supply of parcel terminal equipment, said that its network will include the ability for parcels to be pre-registered and tracked.

Ansi Arumeel, Estonian Post’s head of logistics, said: “Our advantage in Estonia and Lithuania. is provision of secure and convenient service around the clock. Parcel terminals are easy to use, similar to ATMs.

“I believe that soon online retailers, catalogue sellers and senders of parcels will prefer self-service post offices in Lithuania as it has happened in Estonia,” Arumeel added.

Integer Group, through its InPost subsidiary, is setting up a pan-European network of parcel terminals to include its partnership with Estonian Post. Widespread in its native Poland, its terminals are also being introduced to Russia, Ukraine, Spain, Portugal, Slovakia and Czech Republic.

Estonian Post said initially the terminals in Lithuania will be for domestic services only, but will ultimately see international service added.

“In the first stage it is possible to send parcels from one terminal to another terminal domestically,” explained Arumeel. “But in the near future all parcel terminals in Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia will be connected up to one common network that covers all Baltic countries.”
