Latvian Post launches hybrid mail service

Latvian Post has launched a new hybrid mail service that will allow customers to send a “real” letter by mail without leaving the house. The Hybrid Post service will allow customers to send correspondence electronically, for the message to be then printed, folded into an envelope and sent in physical form on the last stage to an addressee.

The Post said: “Hybrid mail is a particularly convenient way to service those customers who routinely spend much time at the computer and are too busy to go to the post office, buy envelopes and stamps and send letters.”

The service is being run in partnership with hybrid mail website Pastnieki.lv, part of social networking company Draugiem.lv, which will provide printing and finishing capabilities before mailing physical items.

For the price of LVL 1.00 (EUR 1.42), a single A4 page or photo can be sent, with additional pages for a LVL 0.25 charge each (EUR 0.35), with payment possible via a text message payment system for mobile phones.

Printed letters would then be delivered within 24 hours of transmission, Lativian Post said, not including holidays.
