Geodis repositions its offer in the UK and Ireland

As part of the Group’s strategy to refocus on profitable businesses, Geodis has decided to reposition its offer in the UK and Ireland.

Indeed, the recovery operation at United Carriers has turned out to be more difficult than planned and the company is due to cease business as of 31 January. Discussions are currently in progress with British and foreign operators to partially take over some branches and the staff employed.

Geodis plans to maintain its presence in the United Kingdom and Ireland in the groupage, freight forwarding and logistics sectors by developing the activities of its subsidiaries Cavewood, Fortec and Geodis Overseas UK.

Cavewood, member of the European groupage network, and Fortec, specialising in pallet transport, have combined net sales of €70 million. Geodis Overseas UK’s net sales stand at €30 million.

Moreover, and in a bid to strengthen its presence in Ireland, Geodis took over Pan European Transport Ltd in Dublin in December of last year. This company, operating in European groupage and road transport, has net sales of €10 million.

With good prospects forecast for the logistics business, Geodis Group should achieve net sales in the United Kingdom and Ireland of over €120 million in 2002.
