DHL launches door-to-door Asia to Europe delivery service

Deutsche Post DHL has launched a new intercontinental door-to-dor delivery service from the Asian-Pacific region to Europe. The offering comes as an expansion of the DHL Door-To-More service already provided within the Asia Pacific region by the company’s air and sea freight division, DHL Global Forwarding.

The service is currently offered out of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore to more than 50 countries across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, with new gateways to be added soon.

The new service combines DHL’s intercontinental air freight capabilities with its European ground distribution network.

The logistics giant said it promised shorter time to market for its customers.

Amadou Diallo, the CEO of DHL Freight, said the DHL Door-To-More service aimed to significantly reduce the complexity of supply chains with a “seamless” distribution system.

The service includes customs clearance, a single billing facility and end-to-end online track and trace capabilities.

Diallo explained: “A web-based application enables easy booking and shipment preparation and provides end-to-end shipment preparation and provides end-to-end shipment transparency down to piece level.”

DHL said the expanded Door-To-More service was responding to a trend among its technology sector customers for direct distribution, delivering products directly to their end customers from their Asian warehouses.

Rob Siegers, president and global head of technology at DHL, said: “The technology industry, with its high pace of innovation and short product cycles, requires cost efficient and flexible supply chain solutions. The concept of direct distribution from manufacturing to end customers improves the time to market at minimum inventory cost and reduces the number of handover points.”
