Mexican Post Office becomes tool of private indsutry

The Mexican Postal Service’s (Sepomex) biggest client is private industry, having largely left behind the delivery of private letters and postcards, reported Mexico City daily Reforma. More than 80 percent of Sepomex’ mail is made up of bank statements, advertising and telephone bills. Sepomex CEO Gonzalo Alarcon said the company currently has contracts with 6 thousand companies, representing 80 percent of total revenues. The companies include Telefonos de Mexico (BMV:TELMEX, NYSE:TMX), Selecciones and Banamex. Another important client is the Mexico City Government, he said. Ten years ago, 200 out of 300 pieces of mail were personal letters, while today, only 30 out of 300 letters are personal, he said.
