Industry Moves – latest appointments at GLS, UK Mail, GrayHair and Air Business

Some of the latest appointments news from around the mail sector, including a new IT managing director for GLS, new directors at UK Mail and two Pitney Bowes execs joining GrayHair Software.

GLS signs Deutsche Post CIO as IT managing director

Royal Mail’s Europe-based international parcel shipping firm GLS has appointed Christian Herrlich as managing director for its GLS IT Services unit.

Herrlich, 44, will be responsible for harmonising and maintaining the Group’s entire IT system, operating across Europe. The company said IT is a “key factor” in its competitiveness. The new GLS IT Services MD has been with Deutsche Post DHL in various capacities in Bonn since 1998, most recently as CIO and divisional board member for DHL Paket Deutschland.

Rico Back, the CEO of Amsterdam-based GLS, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to find a suitably-qualified individual to head our IT division.”

UK Mail Group appoints two execs

UK mail and parcel delivery company UK Mail Group has appointed Sarah Maddox as its new human resources director, and Simon Baxter as its new customer strategy director.

Maddox brings 30 years of experience including most recently 14 years at National Express Ltd, which operates in the UK, Spain and America. Baxter joins UK Mail from regional water utility Anglian Water, where he was head of developer services for the past seven years.

Guy Buswell, UK Mail’s chief executive, said: “We are pleased to announce and welcome Sarah and Simon to the business. UK Mail is an exciting, fast-moving dynamic company and with the right people in place we can continue to grow the business.”

GrayHair Software gains two Pitney Bowes experts

US business mail management software firm GrayHair Software has signed two former Pitney Bowes executives – Jeff Stangle and Adam Collinson.

Stangle has been appointed vice president of solutions engagement at new Jersey-based GrayHair, bringing nearly 25 years experience managing products and services. He joined Pitney Bowes back in 2001. Stangle said of his new company: “They make it clear that their clients’ welfare is their primary concern. This falls in line with my values and makes use of my expertise.”

Collinson becomes GrayHair’s new director of research and development, after more than 13 years at Pitney Bowes. Mark Gao, vice president of application development at GrayHair, said: “Adam will be the source for contribution to and development of many GrayHair innovations.”

Fraser joins Air Business as client management director

An Post’s UK-based publishing industry distribution and fulfillment subsidiary Air Business has appointed a former DHL Global Mail sales director as its new client management director.

Ian Fraser has been in the international mail business since 1986, his career including a sales director position on the board of Mercury International. Prior to entering the international mail sector, he worked within the air cargo industry.

Fraser will report to Air Business group sales and marketing director Jonathan Middleton, who said: “Ian brings a wealth of industry, sales and customer management experience, which adds to our market-leading account management team.”

Ryan appointed Purolator International HR director

Purolator International, the cross-border arm of Canada’s Purolator Inc., has appointed Debbie Ryan as its new human resources director.

Ryan has 20 years of experience in human resources, most recently working for engineering firm Target Rock, but starting her career at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. In her new role, she is part of the executive team, working to create effective strategies for achieving Purolator International’s business goals. She will be responsible for recruitment, compensation systems, labour laws, employee relations, and performance management throughout the organization.

“With our expansion into key US markets, it is important to have Debbie’s calibre of skill and experience in identifying qualified personnel to represent Purolator International in all our locations,” said John Costanzo, president of Purolator International.
