SAPO names Christopher Hlekane as new chief
The South African Post Office has appointed Christopher Hlekane as its new group chief executive. Hlekane was named almost seven months after previous group chief executive Motshoanetsi Lefoka left by mutual consent after facing corruption allegations.
He comes to SAPO after seven years as general manager at the Airports Company of South Africa, the government-owned company which runs the country’s nine major airports.
His previous experience includes three years as industrial manager at L’Oreal South Africa up to 2003, and a year as territory manager for Coca Cola South Africa at the end of the 1990s.
With degrees in chemistry from the University of Venda for Science and Technology and Rhodes University, Hlekane worked during the late 1980s as production manager for packaging company Nampak.
In a statement, SAPO said: “The Board of the SA Post Office is proud to confirm that Christopher Hlekane has been appointed Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the organisation.
“Hlekane brings with him a wealth of experience across the manufacturing, consumer goods and airline industries and has previously held senior roles at Nampak, L’Oreal, Coca-Cola and most recently as General Manager at the Airports Company South Africa.”
