Maximising efficiency

Maximising efficiency

Last June Solystic won the Innovation Award at the World Mail Awards 2013 in Madrid. Post & Parcel caught up with Strategic Director of Solystic Pierre Patry to find out more about the XMS solution.

Can you describe the product Solystic was recognised for in the Innovation Award?

Solystic’s XMS™ machine enables a delivery round to be prepared automatically on a single type of machine and on a minimum number of sites, even with a very wide range of mail (letters and flats). Merging these operations reduces costs by two-thirds. XMS™ also provides greater processing flexibility in the face of continued evolution within the mail spectrum (letters versus flats).
Today, postal operators need to reduce their operation costs as revenues are decreasing so our solution has become a popular option.

Can you describe the development process for the machine?

Ergonomic analysis enabled us to optimise all functions of the XMSTM machine, including de-stacking, mail conveyance, outputs and operator movements. Machine behaviour was reproduced and validated using Solystic’s simulation tool SOSiTM, based on real data such as mail volume and operator work rates. The machine was also subjected to a large number of on-site tests with a European postal operator, processing 400,000 mail pieces per month.

What did winning the award mean to the business?

Everyone involved in the project was very proud – the award reinforces our conviction that solutions are the best form of innovation. The XMS machine is innovative as it is the first solution for both letters and flats and we anticipated the need for a solution of this kind.

How did you feel when you found out the company had won?
It was an honour for Solystic to have done so well considering the tough competition and it was all the more meaningful that the company was recognised by experts from the postal market. We are really proud that Solystic’s solution was recognised and appreciated

How did the business benefit from winning the award?

Firstly it helped us to gain contacts with many postal services and one operator went onto test and then buy it. Having the award is something we continue to use to promote the XMS Solution.

Why do you think it is important for Triangle to run these awards?
It is an interesting event where you can create contacts and links throughout the two technical days as well as the dinner.

Nominations for the awards will be open until the 28th February. To enter the awards  visit the World Mail Awards website – www.mailawards.com
