Swedish post office close to decision on new facility

The Swedish post office is to decide on 20 October whether to go ahead with construction of a new 20,000sq metre facility at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport.
The development would connect its domestic and international mail and parcels operations.

The airport is also in talks with intermodal operator Rail Combi and Swedish rail freight carrier Green Cargo to create a multimodal terminal at or near the airport to connect the post office, and other customers’ rail, road and air operations.

“Rail Combi has a terminal south of Stockholm, but wants a second one north of the city, ” said airport cargo manager Christer Holst. “It makes sense to put this near the airport.” The airport is also developing a plan to fence off the freight area at the southern side of the airport to create a “freight-side” security area from early next year, he added.
