Govt. to Limit Swiss Post Monopoly in 2006
The Swiss government plans to limit the Swiss Post’s monopoly to letters below 100 grammes from 2006, Swiss news agency SDA said. Currently the Swiss Post has a monopoly on deliveries of up to 2 kilogrammes. The Post’s current monopoly position cannot be upheld on a European scale, Swiss Post minister Moritz Leuenberger said. Nevertheless, the Swiss government has opted for a softer approach compared to the EU, he added. The EU plans to limit national postal services’ monopolies to below 100 grammes by 2003, and below 50 grammes by 2006.
