Carriers Compete for Spanish Post Contract

On Friday the Spanish post office will award the 9.61m euro contract for night postal flights in 2003. Yesterday Alberto Nunez-Feijoo, chairman of the post office, announced that Air Europa, Spanair (which currently provides the service), Boreal, Farconi and Charter are competing for the contract. The contract involves aeroplanes from Santiago de Compostela, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga and Vitoria flying to Madrid airport and back again. It complements the service which the post office provides using the space reserved on Iberia flights, and strengthens the surface distribution network. The Spanish post office is currently restructuring its distribution model.
