SingPost to hire 200 more delivery and quality control staff

SingPost is increasing its workforce by 15% to strengthen its mail delivery services within Singapore as the population grows. The company said at the weekend that it will hire more than 200 people to roles in delivery or quality control.

The move will mean SingPost is better positioned to serve new housing estates.

It will also see the company improving the accuracy of its mail delivery through more checks and improvements to minimise human errors, with plans to more than triple the current team of 25 quality control officers.

The recruitment drive comes as part of a $100m investment in the company’s postal and delivery systems.

SingPost plans to more than triple its number of quality control officers

Woo Keng Leong, SingPost’s head of postal services, said: “We are in a people business with the end delivery being heavily dependent on the postmen. To help recruit more postmen and also to retain good postmen, we constantly look for ways to make the job more attractive, for example by increasing salaries and introducing measures such as flexible benefits to enhance job satisfaction.”

SingPost currently has 1,200 delivery staff. Since July the company has extended its delivery service to six delivery days, dedicating Saturdays to the delivery of packages.

The drive to improve quality comes alongside a $45m investment in a new mail sorting system, which should improve delivery accuracy and efficiency.

SingPost is also in the process of replacing its fleet with new three-wheeler scooters. The new vehicles come with more horsepower and an enlarged pannier box, providing 25% more storage capacity than the two-wheeled vehicles being replaced.

The company said that the new vehicles cater to the increasing proportion of parcels within the mail as online shopping becomes more popular in Singapore.
