UPS expands Incheon air hub in Korea

UPS today announced the official opening of its newly expanded hub at Incheon International Airport. Situated within the airport’s Cargo Terminal Area, the newly expanded hub occupies over 9,000 square meters, more than 60 percent increase in size. The increased capacity allows UPS to increase import, export and transshipment capability by around 50 percent. Setting new standards in Korea, the expanded hub is equipped with new technologies and infrastructure which will strengthen UPS’s capability to support Korean businesses that are looking to expand trade with key growth markets. As one of the first global logistics providers in Korea to operate on the new Auto Sorting System, the number of shipment inspection delays is expected to be reduced. And with a new Cargo X-ray System in place, UPS is now able to handle bulky or palletised shipments, further reducing potential handling delays.

‘Ranked 8th in terms of global trade volume during the first six months of 2014, according to the Institute for International Trade, Korea continues to be an important global trade centre, connecting Asia to the rest of the world.” said JK Rah, Managing Director of UPS Korea. “Our investments in technologies and expanded space at Incheon International Airport bring greater operational efficiencies that also reduce potential shipment delays. UPS’s customers from Korea and other parts of the world can benefit immediately from the enhancements, enabling them to compete in the global marketplace.”

The expansion of the hub is part of UPS’s long-term commitment toward building an extensive and integrated logistics network across Asia Pacific. Connecting Korea to key markets within Asia and to Europe and the United States, the hub operates 80 weekly flights. Integrated into UPS’s industry leading capabilities in air freight, ocean freight, contract logistics and innovative technology, businesses in Korea of all sizes have access to greater supply chain reliability and numerous delivery options to 220 countries around the world.
