SingPost rolling out next-generation post office concept

Singapore Post has begun rolling out its new generation of post offices island-wide. The company said on Friday its eighth next-generation post office is opening this week in Suntec City Mall as it starts rolling the concept across Singapore.

The new post office concept seeks to integrate digital access with essential postal services under one roof, within a “vibrant lifestyle hub”.

It features an “auto-lobby” packed with kiosks and parcel locker terminals (POPStations) to serve customers round the clock, before looking to roll out the new post offices island-wide.

The new post offices will also boast user-friendly signage, areas dedicated for customers to prepare packages for mailing, and the use of special service “ambassadors” to assist customers with their needs.

SingPost said it is expecting to complete a “major revamp” for all post offices in Singapore over the next few years.

“Digitally inclined”

Wolfgang Baier, the Group chief executive at SingPost, said the next generation post offices were “digitally-inclined”, to support online retail and the busy lifestyle of customers.

“We are basically remodeling our post offices and transforming them into modern, efficient hubs to meet their e-commerce and digital needs,” he explained.

“This includes 24/7 self-service lobbies with POPStation and ezy2ship [online shipping service] facilities for them to post, collect or return parcels.”

The new post office at Suntec City will be a flagship post office that will test new products and services. These will include in-store tablets on which customers can browse philatelic products before purchasing at the counter.

Another new feature within the Suntec post office is a Business Solutions Centre designed for corporate clients to find out how SingPost can help to grow their businesses.

The Suntec City post office is even piloting a new 3D printing service that will allow small businesses and individuals to conveniently “print” objects like prototypes and customised gifts, within an Innovation Centre area of the new post office.

Elvin Too, SingPost’s vice president for post office products, services and network, said: “We are innovating for the future. Our customer needs are ever changing. This Innovation Corner serves as a testbed for innovative new services that can be offered at post offices in the future, such as 3D Printing. That way we can ensure the post office always offers services that are relevant to Singapore.”
