UPS expands logistics facilities in Germany and the Netherlands

UPS has expanded three of its international contract logistics facilities in Germany and the Netherlands. The company said it added 20,000 square metres (220,000 sq ft) to its network through the expansions at sites in Krefeld, Germany, Butzbach, Germany and Venlo, the Netherlands.

The move follows the 110,000 sq m (1.2m sq ft) added to four North American sites, and brings the company’s global network of 596 supply chain facilities up to more than 3m sq m (33m sq ft) of capacity.

UPS said the expansion was driven by growing demand from retail and high-tech customers.

Harld Peters, vice president of UPS Contract Logistics Europe, said: “We continue to expand our contract logistics reach and capabilities in Europe to serve the growing demands of our B2B and B2C customers.”

The company’s facility in Krefeld, northwest of Dusseldorf in western Germany has seen 5,000 sq m (53,000 sq ft) added to provide more capacity for high-tech and retail customer growth.

The Butzbach facility, near Frankfurt am Main in central Germany, has had a 7,000 sq m (75,000 sq ft) expansion.

UPS said its Venlo facility in the southeast of the Netherlands, has added 8,500 sq m (91,000 sq ft) of space, similarly prompted by retail and high-tech customer demand.

UPS supply chain facilities provide services including warehousing and order fulfillment, inventory and parts repair, transportation, returns management and same-day delivery.
