France told by EU to reinforce independence of postal services regulator

The European Commission said it has made a formal request to France to ensure that the national regulator for the postal services sector is independent from the public postal operator La Poste.

The commission noted that the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Finance and Industry is simultaneously responsible for state property in La Poste and its economic and financial performance and also regulates the sector as a whole.

France must now respond to the commission’s request within two months.
