DPD (Germany), FedEx Cooperate on Express

Deutscher Paketdienst (DPD), Germany’s second-largest parcel delivery service provider after the country’s former monopoly Deutsche Post, is adding express deliveries to its range of services, in collaboration with US logistics group Federal Express. The collaboration between the two companies will give DPD a foothold in 220 countries, and it hopes also to improve its competitive position compared with that of Deutsche Post. DPD also co-operates with the Swedish postal service operator. DPD, a subsidiary of French state postal service operator La Poste, aims to increase turnover by 8 per cent compared with the 1.61bn euros shown last year. Currently, DPD holds a 17 per cent share of the German parcel deliveries market, compared with 50 per cent for Deutsche Post. DPD plans further co-operations with foreign logistics companies in future, including an agreement shortly to be concluded with the Slovenian post office. It does not plan to expand into letter deliveries.
