La Poste Unions Reject Pay Increase

The trade unions of the French post office (La Poste) yesterday rejected management’s offer of a 1 per cent pay rise (1.8 per cent for those at the bottom of the salary grading) for the organisation’s 101,000 contract staff. This is the first time in 11 years that La Poste’s unions have disputed a pay increase. The CGT union, for example, claims that the proposed rise fails to maintain purchasing power, while SUD-PTT, the post and telecoms branch of the SUD union, has condemned the growing number of part-time contracts. The FO, meanwhile, has pointed out that a third of French postal worker earn 990.85 euros per month.
