Alibaba registers Russian subsidiary

China’s leading e-commerce company Alibaba.com has registered a Russian subsidiary. On Tuesday (2 June) this week, Russian newspaper Kommersant quoted Mark Zavadsky, business development director for AliExpress in Russia and the CIS, as saying: “Alibaba Group founded a new company in Russia in order to further expand our business and support our partners, and also to facilitate cooperation with the Russian authorities.”

According to local reports, around 70% of international packages shipping to Russia in 2014 came from China – and most of this is driven by the e-commerce websites, with Alibaba well to the fore.
