Woolworths and eBay to expand Click & Collect network

Woolworths and eBay to expand Click & Collect network

Australia’s largest domestic retailer Woolworths and eBay are to expand the click and collect network which they launched in February. The “Simply Collect” service, officially launched on 24 February, has so far enabled eBay buyers to pick up their online purchases in around more 90 Woolworths and BIG W stores across Sydney and Tasmania. Now, the service will also be available in 17 Woolworths and BIG W stores in Melbourne.

In an official statement posted on eBay’s Australian website in February, the two companies explained why they believed there would be significant demand for a click and collect service: “New research reveals that one in five online shoppers in Australia buys online at least once a week, yet almost half (47%) are not permitted to receive personal deliveries at work. A quarter (23%) have taken holiday or worked from home, in order to receive an online delivery.  Half (49%) re-direct personal online deliveries because they are at work.

“With this in mind, eBay and Woolworths have developed a service that will provide the most convenient delivery network for online shopping in Australia, giving consumers the chance to choose a collection point that suits their needs.”

According to Woolworths, 91% of Australians live within 10km of a Woolworths store, which would make its network a very convenient click and collect channel.
