Flipkart and Snapdeal may join Amazon in using India Post for same-day deliveries in Bengaluru

Indian e-commerce players Flipkart and Snapdeal may follow Amazon’s lead and use India Post’s metro delivery service to arrange same-day deliveries in the city of Bengaluru. Local media have quoted BS Chandrashekhara, assistant director for business development at the Department of Posts, Karnataka Circle, as saying: “The national postal service is in informal talks with Flipkart and Snapdeal who have responded positively to the metro delivery service.”

A spokesperson for Snapdeal, however, said it was “still too early to speak about plans for metro delivery service,”

Amazon is currently using the same-day delivery service in Bengaluru on a pilot basis, but the operation is reported to be going well and sources at India Post have indicated that the offering could be extended to other cities in the future.

Meanwhile, sources have also reported that China’s Alibaba and Foxconn are in talks with Snapdeal about buying a 10% stake in the Indian online retailer.
