Vietnam Renews List Of Businesses Not Allowed To Strike

The government has renewed a list of businesses that are not allowed to go on strike.

Under the new list, employees working for electricity production, supply and transmission companies under the Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN), postal and telecommunication businesses under the Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Corporation (VNPT), passenger and cargo transportation businesses under the Vietnam Railway Union are not entitled to go on strike. The list also includes businesses under the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), municipal and provincial public transport and utility businesses, maritime transportation and freight warranty businesses under the Vietnam Maritime Transport Department and the Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VINALINES), air transportation and aviation warranty businesses under the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration.

Businesses operating in the fields of oil and gas exploration and exploitation, transportation, refinery and production services under the Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation (PetroVietnam), and petroleum services and supply under the Vietnam Petroleum Corporation are not permitted to go on strike.

National security and defence businesses, businesses in the service of external relations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and those engaging in irrigation and water resource development are not allowed to organise strikes, either.

The newly-issued list will replace the previous one contained in Government Decree 51/CP issued on August 29, 1996.
