Hermes buys stake in same-day delivery company

Hermes Logistics Group Germany has bought a 28.5% stake in the same-day delivery company Liefery. Liefery started up last year and currently operates with 2,500 couriers in 54 German cities – and now it says it is ready for its “next growth phase”. The company plans to speed up the roll-out in German cities, expand the business model to other European countries and further develop its IT platform.

In a statement issued by Hermes today (15 July), the Liefery management team announced its intention to increase the actual growth rate of 20% per month and to position the company as the leading local same day delivery provider in Europe.

Liefery said it had found in Hermes “an investor that, besides capital, can also add a long-standing retail experience and a broad customer base to the shared business”.

FJ Miller, Co-Founder and chairman of the board of Liefery, said: “We are very proud to have won Hermes as our lead investor and are looking forward to the additional opportunities for growth we receive through the combination of capital increase and strategic competency. Already today, Liefery is available with leading retailers in more than 50 German cities. In the upcoming months the company is about to continue its exceptional growth.”

Frank Rausch, CEO Hermes Logistics Group Germany & Hermes Transport Logistics: “Within the next years, Hermes intends to become the preferred logistics partner for the e-commerce business. Besides growing aspects like consumer convenience and flexibility, speed will become a more and more important factor. The cooperation with Liefery, a renowned specialist for same day delivery, allows us to target new solutions of high demand and expand our portfolio for flexible and worldwide parcel delivery accordingly.”
