FedEx confirms order for more Boeing 767 aircraft

FedEx Express confirmed yesterday (21 July) that it has agreed to buy 50 additional 767-300F aircraft from The Boeing Company. In addition to the 50 confirmed orders, FedEx also has options to purchase 50 more aircraft.

The 50 firm-order aircraft will be delivered from fiscal 2018 through fiscal 2023.  With this order, FedEx Express now holds a total of 106 firm orders for 767Fs from The Boeing Company through fiscal 2023.

“Acquiring additional 767F aircraft is a continuation of our very successful air fleet modernization program and will enable us to reduce structural costs, improve our fuel efficiency and enhance the reliability of our global network,” said David J. Bronczek, president and chief executive officer of FedEx Express.

As previously reported, unconfirmed news about FedEx’s deal with Boeing surfaced in the market last week – although the news agencies were suggesting that the logistics company might be looking to buy 25 more 767 planes, rather than the 50+options order that was confirmed yesterday.

FedEx currently has a fleet of around 640 freighter aircraft. In addition to the 767F orders, it has also committed to 18 Boeing 777 freighters.
