Flipkart testing new “hyperlocal” delivery service

Indian online marketplace Flipkart is reported to be testing a new “hyperlocal”, same-day delivery service. According to local sources, the company is working with local merchants to build up a service that aims to compete with Amazon’s Kirana Now.

Flipkart is said to be working on the project with the logistics and delivery start-up Roadrunnr. Earlier this month, Roadrunnr raised $11m in new funding from Sequoia Capital, Nexus Venture Partners, and Blume Ventures. Roadrunnr’s co-founders  Mohit Kumar and Arpit Dave are both former Flipkart employees.

As reported by Post&Parcel yesterday, Flipkart has also recently announced the launch of 22 “experience zones” – locations which will function as parcel pick-up points, as well as offering other “value added” services.
