Consignia backs down over small business charges
Consignia has backed down over its plan to charge small businesses and householders £14-a-week to receive their post before 9am.
The company announced plans to level the charge for an early delivery to those receiving less than 20 letters a day, meaning that SMEs would be faced with paying an extra £728 a year.
Instead, Consignia will now widen its pilot projects to see if it can deliver small volumes of mail before 9am for under £14-a-week.
It will also consider lesser charges of £5 and £10 a week.
The British Chambers of Commerce condemned the plans, saying they would threaten the competitiveness of UK businesses.
