IDS: It all balanced out

IDS, based in Bielefeld (North Rhine Westfalia, Germany),published its results for the year 2001. Sales increased from EUR 2.0 billion in 2000 to EUR 2.15 million in 2001. However, there was a slight decrease in the volumes handled. The network transported a total of 1.7 million tonnes of goods.
There were 7.3 million one-day consignments compared to 7.5 million in 2000. A double-digit growth rate was achieved by the premium <> and > products. The <> product introduced at the beginning of 2001 also increased its market share.
IDS’s executive manager, Barbara Dietz, commented:
<<In spite of the cost explosion caused by the <> tax, road tolls and rising wages and the generally difficult economic climate, we managed our finances extremely well in this business year.>>

New hub

IDS will start building a central handling platform at Badhersfeld (Hessen) in August this year. By April next year, operations should start at this centre, which will cost approximately EUR 6.4 million. It will include a 172 m long warehouse with a total of 5,200 sqm floor space and 82 loading bays. Dietz said that the new hub will considerably increase the capacity of the whole IDS network.
