ID Data wins PO Smart Card deal

Secure transactions firm ID Data has won a deal to supply smart cards to the Post Office as part of its rollout of next-generation banking.

From next year the Government plans to pay all benefits directly into bank accounts as part of its plan to offer banking facilities to people who lack them. The accounts will use PIN and smart card technology at counters with chips based on the EMV standard for transactions.

Through its joint venture TTI, ID Data will provide smart cards and other services to technology firm EDS, which runs the scheme.
