Farmigo set for Seattle-Tacoma launch
Farmigo, the start-up company which aims to create “farm-to-neighbourhood” food delivery networks, is planning to launch in the Seattle-Tacoma area in mid-October. The company has also recently raised another $16m in series B funding, according to local reports.
Farmigo is an online marketplace where consumers can order farm-fresh groceries, then pick them up from local “food communities,” such as a nearby school or office. Farmigo describes this as a “farm-to-neighbourhood movement”, which is “founded on groups of neighbors ordering individually and picking up together, as a community”.
The Farmigo service is currently available in New York City, New Jersey and Northern California (company founder Benzi Ronen start up the business in San Francisco before moving east a couple of years ago). The Seattle-Tacoma launch, according to a report on TechCrunch, is scheduled for 14 October. TechCrunch also reported that Farmigo claims to be selling to more than 15,000 families and adding about 2,000 new families each month.
As Post&Parcel reported on 2 September, Amazon has recently begun trialling its new Farmers Market Direct programme in Southern California, in partnership with Fresh Nation. Amazon was also set to trial the service in New York City (one of Farmigo’s locations).
