Postmates launches 15-minute food delivery service
On-demand delivery company Postmates has launched a new service – called Pop – which aims to delivery meals to its customers “in 15 minutes or less”. In a blog posted on its website yesterday (6 October), Postmates announced that it will start by “rolling it out to customers during lunchtime in SoMa” [the South Market district in San Francisco], but added that it is “expecting a rapid expansion into other geographies and hours”.
As previously reported, the meal delivery business in the US is becoming increasingly competitive. In addition to PostMates, the specialist companies include Munchery, DoorDash, GrubHub, Tapingo, NeighborFavor and Spoonrocket. And- just to really stir things up – Uber and Amazon have weighed into the market with, respectively, UberEATS and Amazon Restaurant.
Postmates’ standard service delivers food to the customer within the hour – so the Postmates Pop proposition could give the company a bit of an edge and help it stand out from the crowd. But it would not be alone: Sprig, for example, also promises to deliver meals in 15 minutes. Furthermore, Sprig – which is based in San Francisco – has the extra differentiator that it creates its own “healthy, organic food” using “produce from local farmers”.
