TNT opens Swindon sortation hub
TNT has officially opened the doors to its new £15.5million super depot and regional sortation hub in Swindon.
The 101-door building features sorting technology capable of processing more than 650 items per minute and TNT has claimed that it will bring “dramatic improvements” to delivery services to and from the South West’s businesses.
Marianne Culver, Managing Director of TNT UK (Domestic), said: “Swindon is a flagship development and will set new standards of excellence in how we operate, the technology we use and how we utilise our strongest assets, our people.”
TNT said that the new facility will reduce the need for freight destined for the South of England to be transported to and from TNT’s Midlands-based sortation hubs each night.
The site, just off the M4 on G Park industrial estate, Swindon, was chosen because of its easy motorway access to cities and major industrial centres across the wider South of England, as well as TNT’s central hubs.
Speaking at the opening ceremony last week, Macro van Kalleveen, TNT’s global Managing Director of Domestics, said the site was one of the key infrastructure developments being delivered through the company’s on-going global Outlook Strategy.
