TNT flies the flag for social projects
Spanish transport and logistics company TNT Espana, a subsidiary of the multinational TNT, has developed a strategic plan for social projects as part of its general business plan. The company, which turned over 228m euros in 2001, believes that such plans serve to build relations between companies and organisations with a similar vision, as well as fostering employee and client loyalty. The drive for a more socially responsible company has come from the employees, via a suggestions box and annual interviews, from the shareholders and from the management itself, according to TNT Espana chairman, Gonzalo Chico.
The company believes its international network and facilities can and should be put to good use. The plan centres mostly on medicine, health and work with children, and it has led to collaboration with the Red Cross and Spain’s national transplants organisation. Many of the employees choose to give blood or donate a day’s wages to projects managed by the company. Gonzalo Chico also believes that the plan helps to keep the company competitive, by attracting the right kind of employees, and by giving clients extra satisfaction in the company’s service.
