DHL and Total sign Nigerian retail agreement

DHL and energy company Total have signed a retail agreement which will enable Nigerian customers to use Total petrol stations to send parcels and documents overseas via DHL. According to local sources, the arrangement is currently being trialled in 30 Total service stations, and it will be rolled out to another 100 stations in phase two of the project.

Randy Buday, Country Managing Director, DHL Express Nigeria, was quoted as saying: “The express logistics industry, and specifically retail services for consumers and small and medium enterprises, are becoming hugely important in Nigeria.

“For us to better service this market and open up global opportunities for students, small business owners and general consumers, we needed to increase access to our express products, and make it easier and more affordable to use them.

“Total is therefore a good strategic fit for us as they have an extensive retail footprint across the country.’’

Earlier this year, DHL set up a similar arrangement with another oil company, Vivo Energy Mauritius, to establish parcel collection facilities at its petrol stations in Mauritius.  Established in 2011, Vivo Energy markets petroleum products under the Shell banner.
