Mail service bill paves the way to modernize Ipostel

Jose Ferrarotto, president of the mail service company Ipostel, stressed the Venezuelan mail service is 15 behind comparatively with other countries, and modernization is expected with the new postal bill passed by the Congress. The draft bill secures private companies rendering postal services and also the liberating of the market. The Venezuelan mail service manages 8 letters per capita per year, compared with 64 in Chile. Among other things the bill points to the creation of a postal agency, private operators have to pay to the government a commission of 1% – 5% on their gross income. Currently there are 426 private companies rendering the service without paying licenses to the government.
