Asda joins EMD

UK-based supermarket Asda has joint the buying alliance European Marketing Distribution (EMD). The Walmart owned supermarket, which has network of 616 stores across the UK, has an annual turnover of 31bn euro and employs about 170,000 people.

In a statement issued yesterday (11 January), EMD said: “Thanks to its new EMD membership, Asda will increase its buying power, generating significant savings from its supply chain which it will reinvest in lowering prices and further increasing product quality.”

EMD added that ASDA’s membership will push the group’s total consumer turnover  up to 178bn Euros.
