Jordan Post Plans E-Projects
Jordan Post is looking to set up Internet kiosks in 300 post offices as part of a larger goal of enabling people to access e-commerce and e-government services.
The Internet kiosk project will also provide a cost-effective way to provide Internet access to people in a country where PC penetration is still limited.
Jordan Post officials were, however, not clear on the investment or how they would finance the project. They hope that some money will come from a Canadian aid project to provide Internet connectivity to schools. “I will start but somebody must help. Maybe the government, I don’t know,” said Sofian Marridi, Jordan Post’s network administrator.
The post also plans to embark on a counter automation project to link post offices with headquarters. The project will be done in partnership with Somepost, a unit of French postal operator La Poste.
