Flipkart reportedly offering logistics services to third-party e-tailers

Indian’s internet giant Flipkart is looking to make the logistics services of its subsidiary eKart available to some third-party e-commerce companies, according to local reports. An article published on the LiveMint website yesterday (1 February) said that online fashion retailers Jabong and Shopclues have already indicated that they want to work with eKart, and other companies are in the pipeline.

An article in the Economic Times speculated that Flipkart plans to run eKart as independent business, to give it the freedom to work with third party retailers.

Sources in India also report that Flipkart is set to roll out an “inter-city” customer-to-customer courier service called eFlash in the next two months. The service is currently being tested by Flipkart employees in Bangalore, according to reports.

Flipkart has made no official comment on either the eKart or eFlash stories.
