UPS opens new Lyon facility
UPS has opened a new 8,000 square metre facility in Lyon-Jonage. The fully automated facility, which was officially opened today (11 February), is the UPS’ largest of its kind in France and represents an €25m investment. It will serve both as a package sorting centre and a distribution hub for parcels of all sizes.
According to UPS, the new centre will be able to process more than 10,000 packages per hour, tripling the company’s previous sorting capacity in the Lyon area. It will employ more than 160 people and has a total delivery fleet of 120 vehicles. It also accommodates 40 load and unload positions for trucks and 132 parking positions for package delivery cars.
In a statement issued this morning, UPS said that this opening is “part of a series of UPS expansions across France and the rest of Europe”. In 2014, the company committed to investing more than two billion dollars in its European infrastructure through 2019.
“This new hub is needed not only to support our existing customers and their growth, but also to create capacity to support our future business development in this very important market,” said Mike Harrell, country manager, UPS France.
