Q-Post to launch services on Internet
Q-Post will today open a new post office in the Al Khertiyat township, north of Doha and later, another, state-of-the-art post office in the Old Airport (Matar Qadeem) area, Ali Mohammad Al Ali, chairman of the General Postal Corporation (GPC), said yesterday.
Speaking to the media during the launch of GPC’s new corporate identity and logo, the chairman said the new post office at Matar Qadeem is slated to open next month and will also offer the post box facility, which the existing post office does not have. In addition, Q-Post plans to launch a slew of new services in the near future as part of its drive to modernise postal services.
He said by mid-December, Q-Post will offer a service through its website, www.qpost.com, that will enable post box owners to know if they have received mail. Under the plan, the post box subscriber’s telephone number will be used as the password for the service. Subscribers will have to simply log-on to the Q-Post website and follow a link to enter their P O Box number and the password to access the service.
Commenting on GPC’s year as an autonomous organisation, Ali said the results were for the customers to see, as the corporation had greatly improved its services.
“Our objective is provide much more than just postal services and we are working towards that objective,” he said, adding that the GPC is awaiting a nod from the concerned authorities to offer the residence permit renewal facility through the postal system. This service, he said, can also be extended for renewal of driving licences and health cards from the Hamad Medical Corporation, among others.
